Google has launched an update to its Penguin algorithm, the fourth one so far. The key feature of this update is the inclusion of Penguin 2.0 technology, which, according to Google, will be better at detecting spam.
According to Matt Cutts, the update will affect 2.3% of English-language queries. Moreover, the head of the webspam team noted that the changes would be significant.
The algorithm update also impacts queries in other languages, not just English. At the same time, Penguin will work differently depending on the language — the more spam there is, the stronger the effect on search results.
It is worth recalling that not long ago, Matt Cutts shared what webmasters should expect from Google this year, with Penguin being the first item on the list. He warned that even more sites would be affected by the algorithm and that strong backlash from webmasters would be inevitable.
