Google and Yandex have begun fighting low-quality websites

28.08.2025

Search engines Google and Yandex have begun a new phase of the fight against sites whose content leaves much to be desired and does not bring value to the user.

Not long ago, Google specialists noticed that many video sites (especially adult sites), as well as other resources, do not contain useful information for the user, but are filled with content provided by affiliate programs, which is also posted on hundreds or even thousands of other resources.

If your site has such content, you should ask yourself the question: “Is the third-party resource hosting information that is interesting to users? Will they want to go to this site?” If the answer is negative, then the site may not satisfy the interests of users and, accordingly, violate Google’s requirements. In this regard, the search engine has the right to take measures against the resource, including excluding it from the search index.

It is also worth noting that today Yandex announced that it will lower the ranking of sites that host shocking, unpleasant and distracting teaser ads.

Oleg Sakhno, Interlabs:
“By a happy coincidence, today can be considered the day of the fight against intrusive advertising on the Internet. But if Yandex decided to fight against outright evil and scammers, then in Google’s statement the situation is not so clear. It is difficult to find ways to monetize a site containing multimedia content. You have to balance on a “fine line”. Such sites are not accepted into the contextual advertising network because there is no way to automatically understand what the content is about and offer a relevant ad. Many webmasters put quite decent affiliate programs. Ad categories are configured depending on the CTR and earnings, but even this does not exclude the appearance of irrelevant ads on the site. The introduction of sanctions for affiliate programs requires a very careful approach, and many things must be checked by a person.”
